Two people killed in separate mountain accidents in Styria

Two hikers died in separate mountain accidents in Styria on Friday, leaving family members and fellow walkers in need of crisis support.

In the morning, a 22-year-old woman from the Czech Republic fell about 150 metres over rocky terrain while hiking with her father on a trail between Großer Bösenstein and Sonntagskarspitz in the Murtal district. A police helicopter recovered her body. Her father received support from a crisis intervention team after the accident.

That afternoon, a 44-year-old man from Thuringia fell over an edge on a steep meadow near Schiedeck in the Schladminger Tauern. He had been walking on a marked trail with four other people. Police said the cause remained unclear but ruled out third-party involvement.

The man landed on steep, difficult terrain below the edge. The crew of the Christophorus 14 rescue helicopter could only confirm his death. A police helicopter took the rest of his group back down to the valley, where a Red Cross crisis team assisted them.
