Two seriously injured in Sydney construction site collapse

Two men are in serious condition after a building under construction partially collapsed in Sydney's inner-city on Monday. The incident occurred around 11 a.m. on Wattle Street in Ultimo, where the roof and walls of the building gave way, sending a large amount of debris onto the street and impacting a nearby gas station.

Emergency services, including the New South Wales Ambulance and Fire and Rescue NSW, responded swiftly. The two trapped men, both in their 60s, were extricated from the rubble. Paramedics treated them for serious injuries, primarily to their legs and necks, before transporting them to the hospital. Five other individuals received medical checks at the scene but did not require further treatment.

Urban Search and Rescue teams from Fire and Rescue NSW were deployed to the site. Police cordoned off the area, evacuated construction workers, and personnel from adjacent buildings, urging the public to stay clear. The cause of the collapse is under investigation as the building was still undergoing construction at the time of the incident.
