Two students from West Nusa Tenggara win scholarships to study in Tunisia, strengthening pesantren ties

Two students from Islamic boarding schools in West Nusa Tenggara have passed the selection for scholarships to continue their higher education in Tunisia. Nurhidayani studies at Nurul Azhar Islamic Boarding School in East Lombok, while Ahmad Alfarizi attends Yasmin Dorebara Islamic Boarding School in Dompu.

Their achievement gave added significance to a Rihlah Hasanah visit by Nurul Azhar to Yasmin Dorebara on Saturday, September 5. The visit aimed to strengthen ties between the two pesantren while giving students and teachers a chance to exchange knowledge, information and ideas about education.

Nurul Azhar leader KH Hendriawan said visits between pesantren could provide an opportunity to discuss educational systems, curricula and school management. He said the experience also helped students build solidarity and develop independence, discipline, responsibility and proper conduct in a new environment.

The meeting also gave Nurhidayani and Ahmad Alfarizi an opportunity to get to know each other before beginning their studies in Tunisia. Yasmin Dorebara leader H. Burhanudin said overseas education could expand the knowledge and capacity of pesantren students.

“Opportunities like this motivate other students to keep studying and dare to pursue educational opportunities abroad,” Burhanudin said. Both schools hope the students’ success will inspire others to develop their academic achievements and seek international educational opportunities.
