Two Suspects Arrested in Manzanillo Teacher’s Feminicide, Who Was Killed in Front of Her Children

Authorities in the Mexican city of Manzanillo have arrested two people allegedly connected to the feminicide of teacher Noemí Ríos Torres, who was killed in front of her two minor children.

Public Security Secretary Fabián Gómez Calcáneo and state Prosecutor Bryant Alejandro García Ramírez said investigators reconstructed part of the events by analyzing C5 surveillance footage and recordings from private security systems.

According to the timeline presented by authorities, a pickup truck appeared near a gas station at about 5:17 p.m. last Wednesday. A woman got out, entered a convenience store, returned to the vehicle and continued driving. Minutes later, investigators located the truck traveling alongside a motorcycle that was later used in the attack, which occurred at approximately 5:45 p.m.

The motorcycle and truck separated after the attack, but investigators said the evidence established a connection between the two vehicles. Authorities also seized both vehicles and several firearms allegedly linked to the crime.

“We have two people in custody for the homicide of teacher Noemí, and we are working to identify the masterminds,” García Ramírez said. He added that investigators have a strong hypothesis about the possible motive but would not disclose it because doing so could affect due process. Gómez Calcáneo said authorities had more information but could not release it for now.
