Two Suspects Arrested in Murder Outside Peru's Real Felipe Fortress

Peruvian National Police (PNP) have apprehended two individuals suspected of involvement in the assassination of André Paolo Juárez Oliva. The victim was fatally shot on Thursday night outside the historic Real Felipe Fortress in Callao.

The attack, which involved at least 14 gunshots, occurred as Juárez Oliva sat in a vehicle with two women. While Juárez Oliva died at the scene from eight bullet impacts, a 25-year-old woman, identified as Ocharán Sánchez, sustained a projectile wound and required medical attention. The assailants reportedly arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire without provocation.

We managed to capture at the Centenario roundabout by personnel from this police station, Joshua and Luis Enrique, both on this motorcycle without a plate and with this pistol, with which they allegedly fired the 14 shots.

Hours after the incident, police located and arrested Joshua Fabricio Caleb Basurto Blanco, 18, believed to be the shooter, and Luis Enrique Flores Velasco, 25, alleged to have driven the motorcycle. Authorities seized a pistol with an empty magazine and a black motorcycle without license plates during the operation. Ballistics tests will be conducted to determine if these items were used in the crime.

While the motive remains under investigation, police are examining a potential connection to another recent violent incident in Callao where one person died and two others were injured. Investigators noted that one of the detained suspects mentioned knowing a victim from the prior attack, leading them to consider a possible link between the two events. The PNP is continuing its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the assassination.
