Two women killed by train near Cumilla Railway Station

Two women died Tuesday evening after being struck by the Chattogram-bound Subarna Express train near Cumilla Railway Station in Bangladesh.

Locals said the two victims were mother and daughter, but police have yet to confirm the relationship.

One of the victims has been identified as Jharna Begum, 38, from Muradnagar in Cumilla. The identity of the second victim, described as being around 18 years old, remains unconfirmed, according to Sub-Inspector Sohrab Hasan of the Cumilla Railway Police Outpost.

Eyewitness accounts suggest the two women were walking along the railway tracks around 7:00 PM when the non-stop train entered the station. In the confusion, they reportedly held hands and attempted to move away from the approaching train. Despite their efforts, Jharna Begum was hit directly by the train, while the younger woman died after being struck by it.

One of the victims was identified as Jharna Begum, 38, daughter of Muradnagar in Cumilla, but the identity of the other woman, aged around 18, could not immediately be confirmed.

Police have recovered the bodies of both women. Jharna Begum's identity was confirmed through her National Identity Card (NID). While locals have suggested the victims were mother and daughter, police have yet to officially confirm this relationship.

Eyewitnesses said the two women were walking along the railway tracks near Cumilla Railway Station around 7:00pm.

Authorities and locals are still working to determine the circumstances that led the women to be on the railway tracks and the reason for their presence near the station at that time.

At that time, the Chattogram-bound non-stop Subarna Express from Dhaka entered the station, leaving the two women confused.
