Two youths jailed in Bangladesh for toy gun videos

Two young men in Bangladesh have been sentenced to jail after police apprehended them for circulating videos online that showed them brandishing toy guns. The arrests occurred in Narayanganj city following public complaints about the videos, which depicted the youths carrying realistic-looking toy weapons on city streets and in public spaces.

Authorities stated that the videos, featuring Md Limon Toha, 22, and Md Yasin Molla, 23, caused fear among residents, including passers-by and children. The Information and Technology Unit of the district police traced the individuals after a video recorded in Narayanganj City Park went viral. Police emphasized that creating panic with imitation weapons, even if not real, is unacceptable.

However, Limon's mother, Laizu Akter, described the incident as a prank, explaining that her son and his friend often created social media content for entertainment. She expressed distress over the legal consequences, stating they never imagined the stunt would lead to such serious action and worrying about her son's future.
