Typhoon Hong Xia Makes Landfall; Taiwan Braces for Showers and Heat

Typhoon "Hong Xia" made landfall in the coastal areas of Hong Kong, Macau, and Shantou, China, on Saturday night as a moderate typhoon. The storm's passage brings a forecast of continued tropical disturbances in the northwest Pacific over the next two weeks.

Taiwan anticipates a period of increased moisture, with southern cloud systems expected to bring localized showers and thunderstorms from Sunday through Tuesday. Forecasters noted that Tuesday will mark a transition day as moisture gradually decreases. Intermittent rain is expected in eastern, southeastern, and southern Taiwan, with potential heavy downpours in some areas. Other regions may experience scattered afternoon thunderstorms.

Temperatures are expected to remain high across Taiwan. The western half of the island could see average temperatures between 34 and 36 degrees Celsius, with some areas like Taipei and Taoyuan potentially exceeding 36 degrees. Eastern areas are forecast to be slightly cooler, around 32 to 33 degrees Celsius. The public is advised to take precautions against heatstroke.
