Typhoon Hongxia Approaches Southern Taiwan; Taipower Dispatches Extra Personnel to Xiaoliuqiu, Hengchun Peninsula

Typhoon Hongxia is heading towards southern Taiwan, prompting Taiwan Power Company (Taipower) to deploy additional personnel to the island of Xiaoliuqiu and the Hengchun Peninsula. The Central Weather Administration forecasts that Tuesday and Wednesday will be the closest the typhoon gets to Taiwan, with its outer bands and storm circles expected to bring localized heavy to torrential rain to the eastern regions and the Hengchun Peninsula, as well as localized heavy rain to southern Taiwan.

To ensure stable power supply, Taipower's Pingtung District Office has actively carried out preliminary typhoon preparations, dispatching additional personnel to the Hengchun Peninsula and outlying island Xiaoliuqiu, and preparing 142 repair personnel, 41 aerial trucks, 27 crane trucks, and 53 large and small engineering vehicles and equipment for full readiness.

In the event of power outages, Taipower will prioritize restoring electricity to critical facilities like medical institutions, government units, and public utilities before serving general users. The company acknowledged that restoration progress may be affected by the extent of the outage, traffic conditions, and weather. They are also urging renewable energy providers to reinforce their equipment and coastal aquaculture operations to check backup water gates and generators to prevent disaster damage.

Taipower's distribution automation system can monitor major distribution lines for abnormalities in real-time. For power outages caused by typhoons, Taipower will actively repair and restore power as soon as possible.

Taipower also reminded the public to reinforce basement waterproofing, secure billboards, remove hanging objects, and trim tree branches to prevent damage to power equipment. They stressed that fallen or exposed power lines should be reported immediately and not touched to avoid electric shock. For power outages, the public is encouraged to use online reporting or the 1911 customer service hotline.
