Typhoon Hongxia skirts Kaohsiung with minimal impact; scattered showers to continue through July 28

Typhoon Hongxia made a swift passage through the Bashi Strait, largely sparing Kaohsiung, Taiwan, from significant wind and rain. The storm's rapid movement meant that the most intense period of its influence on the city occurred overnight and into the morning.

While the typhoon's direct impact was minimal, localized showers and thunderstorms are forecast to persist in Kaohsiung until July 28. This is attributed to the northward shift of southern cloud systems following the typhoon's departure, rather than a strong southwest monsoon.

The Kaohsiung city government had activated its Typhoon Disaster Response Center at an expanded Level 3 alert in anticipation of the storm. However, despite initial forecasts predicting up to 150 millimeters of rain and average wind speeds of 2 to 7級, the city experienced only light rainfall and moderate winds.

Fortunately, no significant damage or casualties have been reported across the city. The Central Weather Administration lifted the sea typhoon warning at 8:30 AM today. The city remains under the influence of the typhoon's outer circulation, with chances of localized heavy showers and thunderstorms continuing.
