Typhoon Saola Weakens, Landfall Probability Drops Below 30%

Typhoon Saola's trajectory has shifted northward, diminishing the probability of a direct hit on Taiwan. Experts now estimate the chance of a land warning has fallen below 30%, though a maritime warning remains likely. The storm is also expected to weaken from a moderate to a light typhoon.

This northward revision in Saola's path is attributed to the Pacific high-pressure system not extending westward as anticipated. Additionally, smaller-scale disturbances within the low-pressure trough did not exert the expected influence. The storm is entering an area with greater vertical wind shear and lower sea heat content, which will contribute to its weakening.
