Typhoon Saudel kills at least one in China as landslide traps more than 10

Typhoon Saudel has caused deaths in China after torrential rain triggered a landslide in Jiangxi province. At least one person died and 11 remained missing, local authorities said, according to Reuters.

The storm brought heavy rain and flooding to coastal regions in recent days before moving inland. A landslide in Gaoping, in Sichuan province, also trapped more than 10 people, state broadcaster CCTV reported. Twelve homes were damaged, according to the information cited in the report.

Authorities evacuated about 250,000 people from the worst-hit areas to safe locations. Twenty-four ferry routes along the coast were suspended, while in several cities in-person classes were halted and tourist attractions temporarily closed.

Saudel is the seventh typhoon to hit China this year. The report said several major natural disasters had already struck the country in recent weeks, causing many deaths and extensive damage.
