Tzu Chi volunteers aid Nepal flood victims in multiple outreach efforts

Tzu Chi volunteers have launched a multi-pronged relief effort in Nepal following devastating floods and landslides triggered by a glacier collapse on the China-Tibet border. The disaster has claimed hundreds of lives and left thousands missing, prompting an urgent response from the humanitarian organization.

Early on the morning of August 28, Tzu Chi volunteers departed from Kathmandu with supplies, dividing into three teams to reach different areas. One team headed directly to the disaster zones, another visited hospitals in the capital to comfort the injured, and a third team traveled to the southern plains of Lumbini and Chitwan to provide care to those affected.

Bikash, a Tzu Chi volunteer who recently returned from the affected Dhading District, shared firsthand information about the conditions in Galchhi. Despite significant road blockages, volunteers navigated the difficult terrain to deliver much-needed supplies and offer support to families coping with the aftermath of the disaster.

Lin Biyu, Tzu Chi Foundation's Deputy Chief Executive Officer, emphasized the severity of the extreme weather event. She noted that the Nepal team immediately formed a disaster response and aid team with local residents. The volunteers are not only mourning the deceased but also providing assistance to the injured and those whose lives have been disrupted. They are also supporting the families of tourists who perished and cooperating with local government efforts for post-disaster recovery.

This type of natural disaster caused by extreme weather is very serious. The Tzu Chi Nepal team immediately divided into three routes, combining with local people to form a disaster response and aid team, fully investing in post-disaster care and rescue assistance.
