Three typhoons in 48 days hit China's Yuhuan, striking the same street

Yuhuan City, located in China's Zhejiang province, has experienced an extraordinary series of typhoon landfalls, facing three major storms, Bavi, Hetao, and Saudel, within a mere 48-day span. This intense period of weather activity has set a new record, with all three typhoons making landfall on the exact same street in the Kantou subdistrict.

The first storm, Typhoon Bavi, struck the Kantou subdistrict on July 11. This was followed by Typhoon Hetao on August 9, which also made landfall in the same location. Most recently, Typhoon Saudel made landfall on August 28, completing the trio of storms to hit the same vulnerable stretch of coastline.

Analysis of the storm paths reveals a striking pattern. All three typhoons originated in the open ocean and were initially predicted to head towards Japan. However, their trajectories shifted westward, bringing them closer to Taiwan. Ultimately, all three storms bypassed Taiwan to the north before making their direct approach and landfall on Yuhuan City.

This unprecedented convergence of typhoon paths on a single street highlights the region's vulnerability to extreme weather. The repeated impact underscores the challenges faced by coastal communities in preparing for and recovering from such intense and narrowly focused meteorological events.
