U.S. Air Force Prepares Helicopters to Evacuate Government in a Nuclear War

The helicopters used to transport senior officials around Washington have another, far more dramatic assignment: evacuating important people to nuclear shelters if a third world war breaks out.

The U.S. Air Force wants to replace these aircraft gradually. Until then, they must remain constantly ready for the possibility of a nuclear conflict and the evacuation of government officials.
