U.S. Donates $600,000 Trucks to Ghana Armed Forces for Engineering Operations

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) received a significant boost to its engineering capabilities with the donation of three Freightliner trucks from the United States. Valued at over $600,000, these heavy-duty vehicles are set to bolster military operations crucial for national development and security.

The donation came at a crucial time when the Ghana Armed Forces continued to play a vital role in safeguarding the country’s territorial integrity while supporting national development, humanitarian relief efforts and peacekeeping operations.

The trucks will be instrumental in improving the GAF's capacity for road construction, barracks development, and disaster response. Their deployment will support key national infrastructure projects and strategic operations across Ghana. The official handover ceremony took place at the Engineer Training School in Accra, under the framework of the African Crisis Response Initiative.

Ernest Brogya Genfi, Ghana's Deputy Minister of Defence, highlighted the donation as a testament to the strong bilateral relations and enduring military cooperation between Ghana and the U.S. He noted the expanding partnership encompasses training, logistics, security, and capacity building. Genfi also pointed to the military engineers' vital role in projects like the Accra Kumasi Expressway and efforts to reclaim degraded forest reserves.

The donation represented more than equipment and reflected the shared commitment of both countries to strengthening capacity, infrastructure and development.

Ralph Olson, Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Ghana, emphasized that the donation signifies a shared commitment to strengthening infrastructure and development. He stated that each truck, valued at over $200,000, will enable the military to transport heavy machinery efficiently to project sites. Olson commended the GAF's professionalism and reliability as a partner in peacekeeping, infrastructure development, disaster response, and regional security.
