U.S. House again passes resolution calling to end Iran war

The U.S. House of Representatives has once again passed a symbolic resolution demanding an end to the war with Iran. The non-binding measure, which calls on President Donald Trump to seek congressional approval for continued military action, passed by a slim 214-208 vote. Four Republicans joined Democrats in supporting the resolution, while the majority of the Republican party voted against it, favoring Trump's war powers.

Democratic Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal criticized the U.S. intervention, stating that the country attacked Iran "without clarifying the mission, strategy, and ultimate goal." The Senate is expected to vote on its own version of the resolution later.

President Trump had informed Congress in July that the U.S. had resumed military operations against Iran after a month-long ceasefire ended. U.S. law requires the president to notify Congress within 48 hours of initiating combat operations, triggering a 60-day period to seek authorization for the use of force or a declaration of war.

This is the second time the House has passed such a resolution, with the Senate having previously supported a similar measure. The vote comes as United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres warned the situation in the Middle East is increasingly out of control and on the brink of something unimaginable, with crises feeding into each other and escalations triggering further conflict.
