U.S. Imposes Financial Sanctions on Eight Cuban Military Officials and Five Entities

The United States has intensified its pressure on Cuba by imposing financial sanctions on eight high-ranking military officials and five state-owned entities. The targeted individuals include the Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, Álvaro López Miera.

According to the U.S. Department of State, these sanctions are a response to the sanctioned parties' alleged facilitation of arms acquisition for the Cuban military. Furthermore, Washington accuses them of providing logistical and intelligence support to U.S. adversaries, specifically naming Russia, China, and Iran.

Today, the administration takes new measures to protect our national security by imposing sanctions on entities and individuals that facilitate Havana's military relations and arms shipments to the Cuban regime.

The measures directly impact the operational and financial structure of Cuba's armed forces. Among the blocked entities are Tecnoimport, Duna S.A., the Military Industry Union (UIM), the Yuri Gagarin military industrial company, and Tecnotex, a subsidiary of the Gaesa conglomerate.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that these actions are designed to protect U.S. national security by targeting individuals and entities that foster Havana's military relationships and arms shipments. He further characterized the Cuban communist regime as a state sponsor of terrorism, alleging it uses its military and intelligence apparatus to spy on the U.S. and serve as a platform for adversarial nations, located just 90 miles from American shores.
