UAE advises citizens in Indonesia to stay alert as volcanic ash disrupts flights

The UAE Embassy in Jakarta has urged Emiratis in Indonesia to remain cautious as volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau spreads across Jakarta and nearby areas.

The embassy called on citizens to follow safety guidance issued by local officials. It also provided emergency contact numbers, +971 800 24 and +971 800 44444, and encouraged Emiratis to register with the Tawajudi service.

Seven Indonesian airports, including two serving Jakarta, remained closed on Monday because of ash from the eruptions, Indonesia’s transport minister said, according to Reuters. Anak Krakatau sits between the islands of Java and Sumatra.

The volcano began erupting late on Friday, sending ash over Jakarta and surrounding areas and prompting airport closures for safety reasons. At night, lava from the eruption lit the sky red, while residents swept ash from their floors and cleaned blackened walls nearby.
