UAE Flights Largely Stable Despite Gulf Tensions; Some Kuwait Routes Affected

Air travel from the United Arab Emirates has largely maintained stability this week, with the majority of flights proceeding as scheduled despite ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Gulf.

However, several routes connecting to Kuwait, Bahrain, and Doha continue to face disruptions. Airlines are adjusting their operations in response to regional airspace restrictions, leading to a number of cancellations and delays. Passengers are strongly advised to verify their flight status before traveling to the airport and to allow ample extra time for check-in and departures.

The security situation remains volatile, particularly following reported explosions on Iran's Qeshm Island near the Strait of Hormuz. Despite these challenges, regional aviation is showing tentative signs of recovery. Qatar Airways is set to resume passenger flights to Kuwait, Bahrain, and Erbil starting Friday, August 8th.

Major UAE carriers have reported specific service impacts. Etihad Airways has canceled flights between Abu Dhabi and Kuwait, while Emirates and flydubai have suspended services to Kuwait and Bahrain. Air Arabia has also canceled multiple flights to Kuwait, Bahrain, and Doha. Numerous international airlines, including British Airways, Singapore Airlines, Lufthansa, and KLM, have extended their suspensions or reductions of services across the Gulf region, with some cancellations lasting until late October.

Travelers can expect potential impacts such as extended flight times, ranging from one to three hours due to rerouting. Last-minute cancellations, schedule changes, longer transit times, and delays in baggage delivery are also possible as airlines navigate the evolving airspace situation.
