UAE orders Dh10 million relief package for Venezuela quake victims

The United Arab Emirates has pledged Dh10 million in emergency humanitarian aid to Venezuela, following two powerful earthquakes that devastated the country. President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan directed the swift assistance package to support relief efforts as rescue teams race against time to find survivors.

The funding underscores the UAE's ongoing commitment to providing rapid humanitarian aid during global emergencies. The announcement comes as Venezuela grapples with the aftermath of the 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes that struck on June 24. The tremors flattened neighborhoods, damaged critical infrastructure, and triggered one of the nation's deadliest natural disasters in over a century.

Official figures report over 920 deaths and more than 3,300 injuries. Thousands remain displaced, with hundreds feared trapped beneath collapsed buildings. Authorities estimate tens of thousands are still unaccounted for as rescue operations continue amidst ongoing aftershocks. The coastal state of La Guaira suffered the most severe destruction, with entire apartment blocks, hotels, and public buildings collapsing.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) announced the financial support, expressing solidarity with Venezuela. The Ministry reaffirmed the UAE's dedication to assisting communities affected by natural disasters worldwide and extended condolences to the families of the victims, wishing a speedy recovery to the injured. The relief package is the latest in a series of humanitarian initiatives by the UAE across Asia, Africa, and other regions impacted by various crises.
