UAE sends nationwide alert after detecting missile threats outside borders

The United Arab Emirates initiated a nationwide alert and activated its air defense systems early Sunday morning upon detecting missile and drone threats originating from outside its borders. Loud sounds were reported across parts of the country, attributed to the ongoing interception operations by the air defense systems.

Authorities later confirmed that all detected threats remained outside the UAE's territorial limits, reassuring the public that the security situation was stable. The Ministry of Defence advised residents to remain calm, follow official instructions, and report any potential debris found. The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) emphasized that precautionary alerts are issued proactively, even with a low likelihood of direct impact, urging reliance on official communication channels.

The country's national systems remain at the highest level of readiness and are continuously monitoring the regional security situation.

This incident was the first genuine nationwide emergency alert in the UAE since May 4, with a previous alert on June 26 being attributed to a technical malfunction. The security alert occurred amidst heightened regional tensions, with Qatar and Bahrain also reporting air defense activations. These developments follow an escalation between the United States and Iran, including reported strikes by the US and alleged attacks by Iran on a container vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.
