Udhayanidhi Stalin Detained Over Alleged Remarks Against Actor Trisha

Chennai Police detained Tamil Nadu Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin from his residence on Tuesday morning, following an FIR registered over remarks allegedly made against actor Trisha Krishnan. The detention occurred a day after Stalin addressed a public meeting in Thanjavur.

The controversy erupted when sections of the crowd at the rally chanted "Trisha, Trisha." Stalin, who was speaking on the Cauvery water issue, briefly paused and made a remark in response. The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) accused Stalin of making an offensive comment directed at the actor.

However, the DMK has denied these allegations, asserting that Stalin's remark was in reference to the Cauvery water issue and not the actor. Despite the denial, the remarks triggered sharp political reactions.

TVK MLA Rhevanth Charan described the comment as "disgusting" and "disgraceful," calling it a "new low" for the DMK's political culture. Similarly, MDMK Principal Secretary Durai Vaiko criticized the alleged remark, stating that the rally's focus should have remained on the Cauvery issue and the plight of Tamil Nadu's farmers. Vaiko condemned the comment as derogatory and against women.

The issue was about Cauvery and the sufferings of the Tamil Nadu farmers. It is highly condemnable that the Opposition leader Udhayanidhi Stalin has uttered such derogatory comments. It goes against women. I condemn it. It was not a stage to settle personal scores. It is unfortunate.
