UEFA considering legal action against FIFA prez Infantino over World Cup sell-off plan

UEFA is contemplating legal action against FIFA President Gianni Infantino concerning his controversial plan to commercialize the FIFA World Cup through a venture called FIFA Forward Enterprise. Sources indicate that European football's governing body has formally warned Infantino against destroying any documents related to the proposal.

The plan envisioned a $20 billion company that would involve private investment, notably from the Kushner family, in managing the World Cup. Upon the proposal's revelation, it drew sharp criticism and concern from various football stakeholders worldwide, including UEFA, the FA, CONCACAF, and the Asian Football Confederation.

In response to the intense backlash, Infantino quickly withdrew the proposal to sell stakes in the World Cup. Prior to this decision, UEFA's 55 member nations had reportedly agreed to boycott the World Cup and other FIFA competitions as a protest, asserting that "some things are simply too important to sell."

Adding to the controversy, two senior FIFA officials reportedly criticized the plan. One official resigned from his advisory role, while another claimed staff members were misled. The collapse of Infantino's commercialization project has cast doubt on his prospects for re-election as FIFA president, with elections scheduled for March next year in Morocco.
