UEFA suspends FIFA boycott threat, but underlying crisis remains

After having received the two assurances we demanded from FIFA on July 30, and after consultation with the national associations, UEFA agrees to temporarily suspend the absence of European teams from FIFA tournaments for the upcoming season.

The decision, detailed in a statement released Thursday following a meeting in Monaco, comes after UEFA's 55 member associations had agreed earlier in the summer to boycott FIFA events due to a loss of confidence in FIFA and its president, Gianni Infantino. This collective action was a response to concerns over FIFA's handling of its finances and proposed partnerships with private investors.

UEFA stated that it received the two assurances it demanded from FIFA on July 30 and, after consulting with its national associations, agreed to "temporarily suspend the absence of European teams from FIFA tournaments for the upcoming season." This means European participation is confirmed for the U20 Women's World Cup, the U17 Men's World Cup, and the U17 Women's World Cup.
