Uganda Police Detail Exemptions for National Cleaning Day

Ugandan police have detailed specific exemptions for the second National Cleaning Day, scheduled for Saturday, August 29. Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke announced on Monday that measures are in place to prevent the confusion experienced during the first event, where individuals were prevented from carrying out their duties.

Categories of people exempt from participating include patients requiring medical attention, medical personnel, and emergency service vehicles. Cross-border vehicles, such as buses traveling to or from neighboring countries, foreign tourists, and journalists will also be exempt. However, Rusoke cautioned that cross-border vehicles must adhere to their designated routes.

Patients, who are people in need of medical attention, will be exempted, and we don't expect somebody going to hospital to be restrained. There must, however, be a reasonable explanation to show that somebody is going to hospital.

Individuals traveling to the airport are also exempted. Rusoke emphasized the importance of carrying valid identification and supporting documents to ensure smooth passage during the exercise. The clarification aims to prevent misunderstandings and ensure the cleaning day, which runs from 7 am to 10 am on the last Saturday of each month, proceeds without disruption for those with legitimate reasons to be mobile.

If a bus is coming from Kenya and going to Kigali, it can't be caught up in this exercise. But if we find you roaming in one of the villages, away from the route chart, we will stop you.
