Uganda, Türkiye intensify trade and investment cooperation ahead of key summits

Uganda and Türkiye are strengthening their bilateral ties with a renewed emphasis on boosting trade, investment, and collaboration in health, science, and innovation. This intensified cooperation aims to leverage diplomatic engagement for concrete economic outcomes.

We met to take stock of where we are and to ensure that our engagements in Ankara are fully aligned with Kampala's priorities. Strong coordination is key to delivering stronger diplomacy and real results for Ugandans.

The commitment was solidified during a working visit by Uganda's Ambassador to Türkiye, Nusura Tiperu, to Ambassador Henry Mayega, Head of International Economic Cooperation at Uganda's Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kampala. The meeting reviewed the progress of Uganda-Türkiye relations and underscored the importance of strong coordination between the ministry and Uganda's embassy in Ankara.

These summits are a platform to position Uganda as an investment destination and to leverage Türkiye's expertise in manufacturing, health and technology. We need to move from dialogue to deals.

Discussions highlighted four key areas: accelerating pending bilateral agreements, enhancing institutional coordination, advancing trade and investment diplomacy, and preparing for two significant upcoming summits. These include the Uganda-Türkiye-Gulf States Trade and Investment Summit and the Uganda-Türkiye Health, Science, Technology and Innovation Summit. These events are designed to attract government officials, private sector representatives, and investors to explore opportunities.

Our goal is to translate diplomacy into measurable outcomes. That means stronger partnerships, effective coordination between the Embassy and the Ministry, and sustainable economic cooperation that creates jobs and expands markets.

Ambassador Mayega emphasized the need to move "from dialogue to deals," positioning Uganda as an attractive investment destination and utilizing Türkiye's expertise. Ambassador Tiperu stressed that diplomatic engagements must yield measurable benefits for Ugandans, focusing on stronger partnerships, effective coordination, and sustainable economic cooperation that creates jobs and expands markets. Both ambassadors affirmed their commitment to working as a unified team to maximize the benefits of the partnership with Türkiye.
