UI Law Faculty Revokes Membership of Students Involved in Lewd Group Chat; Sexual Harassment Probe Underway

In a decisive move, the Student Representative Body (BPM) of the University of Indonesia's Faculty of Law has stripped active membership status from students implicated in a lewd group chat. This organizational sanction, detailed in a decree, underscores the university's commitment to upholding its core values and ethical standards. The University of Indonesia (UI) has affirmed that its Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence (Satgas PPKS) is actively investigating the alleged sexual harassment. UI emphasizes that all forms of sexual violence, including verbal and digital misconduct, are serious violations of its principles and regulations. The university assures a victim-centered approach, prioritizing justice, confidentiality, and caution throughout the investigation process, which includes verifying reports, interviewing parties, gathering evidence, and coordinating with relevant units. UI is prepared to impose sanctions, including academic penalties up to expulsion, and will cooperate with law enforcement if criminal elements are identified. The university is committed to a professional and independent investigation, offering comprehensive support to affected individuals, including psychological, legal, and academic assistance, while urging the public to refrain from spreading unverified information.
