UK PM to Host Zelensky, Reaffirm Support Amid Escalating Ukraine Conflict

British Prime Minister Andy Burnham will host Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday, the first foreign leader welcomed since Burnham took office. Downing Street stated that Burnham will reaffirm the UK's "unwavering" support for Ukraine.

The two leaders are scheduled to meet at a naval base. They will also engage with Ukrainian and British military personnel participating in a mine countermeasures exercise, preparing for future Black Sea missions. "Russia must have no doubt about our determination, and we will not back down until we achieve a just and lasting peace for Ukraine," Burnham stated.

This diplomatic engagement follows a weekend of intensified strikes. Six people were killed Sunday in Ukrainian attacks on occupied areas and a border village, according to Russian local authorities. Meanwhile, Kiev reported four deaths from Russian attacks. These strikes occurred the day after attacks that claimed 20 lives in both countries.

Separately, Romania announced it summoned Russia's ambassador on Sunday. This action came after Romanian armed forces shot down a drone, the third to fly over its territory bordering Ukraine in three days.
