Łukasz Gibała leads Krakow presidential election polls

Łukasz Gibała is currently leading the race for Krakow's presidency, according to a new poll. The snap election, scheduled for September 27, was triggered by a referendum on May 24 where residents voted to recall Aleksander Miszalski, the former president from Civic Coalition.

The Opinia24 poll for Polityka Insight shows Gibała with 25.2% support. Notably, the percentage of undecided voters is exactly the same, 25.2%, suggesting a potentially volatile outcome. Monika Piątkowska of Civic Coalition and PSL is in second place with 15.3% support, nearly 10 percentage points behind Gibała. If these poll results hold, Gibała and Piątkowska would advance to a second round of voting.

Other candidates vying for the presidency include Daria Gosek-Popiołek of The Left (8.7%) and Michał Drewnicki of Law and Justice (7.6%). Further down the poll are Aleksandra Owca from Together (4.3%), Bartosz Bocheńczak from Confederation (3.2%), Marian Banaś (3.2%), and Jan Hoffman (3.2%). The poll also lists Michał Klimek with 1% support, while 2.1% indicated support for other candidates.

The election follows Miszalski's narrow victory over Gibała in the second round of the 2024 election, where Miszalski secured 51.04% of the vote compared to Gibała's 48.96%, a difference of just 5,434 votes. The high number of declared candidates and the significant portion of undecided voters highlight the competitive and uncertain nature of the upcoming election.
