Ukraine Attacks Moscow With Hundreds of Drones; Air Alert in Kyiv

Mutual overnight drone and missile attacks between Russia and Ukraine have resulted in at least 19 fatalities, according to reports from both sides. Ukrainian authorities also reported damage to one of the country's largest steel plants.

Ukraine launched what was described as one of the most massive drone assaults in recent times, targeting Moscow with hundreds of unmanned aerial vehicles. The Russian Defense Ministry stated that 822 Ukrainian drones were intercepted nationwide. In Russia's Rostov region, five people were killed in a residential area by Ukrainian drones, while three more deaths were reported in the Belgorod, Kursk, and Moscow regions. Additionally, three people were killed in Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine.

A drone set fire to a warehouse belonging to Russian online retailer Wildberries near Moscow. The company, known as the "Russian Amazon," has been accused by Ukraine of involvement in transporting and storing weapons, leading to repeated Ukrainian attacks on its facilities. Meanwhile, the Russian army reportedly attacked the Arcelor Mittal steel plant in Kryvyi Rih, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's hometown, with drones and missiles, killing two people and injuring 14. The plant, one of Ukraine's largest and a supplier to the defense industry, had to partially halt production. Another person died in Kryvyi Rih from a separate Russian attack. Ukrainian authorities also reported two deaths in the Zaporizhzhia region, one in Sumy, and one in Donetsk from Russian missile strikes. Dozens were injured in attacks around Kyiv, Odesa, and Dnipropetrovsk.
