‘Ukraine defending its sovereignty, territory’

Ukraine's Embassy in Kuwait emphasized the profound meaning of independence for the Ukrainian people, defining it as an embodiment of freedom, sovereignty, democracy, and the right to self-determination. On the occasion of Ukraine's 35th Independence Day and the 33rd anniversary of diplomatic ties with Kuwait, the embassy drew parallels between the two nations' understanding of sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The embassy specifically referenced Kuwait's experience in confronting the 1990 Iraqi invasion, highlighting a shared respect for international law and the UN Charter. Ukraine also voiced its support for Kuwait in facing perceived Iranian aggression and acknowledged the efforts of Gulf countries in restoring regional security and stability.

Regarding the ongoing conflict with Russia, the embassy clarified that Ukraine is actively defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity. Its primary objective, it stated, is to achieve peace and reclaim its territories within internationally recognized borders, firmly rejecting any forceful alteration of borders. The embassy conveyed appreciation for Kuwait's supportive stance and the humanitarian assistance provided since the Russian invasion began.

Kuwait has allocated $1 million in 2023 to purchase generators for Ukraine, addressing attacks on its energy infrastructure, and the embassy affirmed the continued need for international support in this sector. Despite geographical distance, Ukraine aims to expand cooperation with Kuwait in trade, investment, food security, agriculture, energy, technology, education, culture, and tourism, building on relations founded on friendship and mutual respect.
