Ukraine Denies Russian Claims of Capturing Kostiantynivka

Ukraine has strongly denied claims made by Russian President Vladimir Putin that Russian forces have captured the city of Kostiantynivka in the Donetsk region. A spokesperson for the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine asserted that the city remains under Ukrainian control, directly contradicting Moscow's assertions.

The information circulating in Ukrainian media about V. Putin's statement, that the Russian army has occupied the settlement of Kostiantynivka in the Donetsk region, does not correspond to reality.

Major Andriy Kovaliov, a press representative for Ukraine's General Staff, stated that information circulating in Ukrainian media about Putin's claim of occupation is inaccurate. According to operational data from Ukraine's armed forces' operational command system 'DELTA,' Kostiantynivka is still controlled by Ukrainian defense forces. Military units of the 'Vostok' (East) force grouping are continuing defensive operations within and around the city's perimeters.

Kovaliov acknowledged that Russia continues its attempts to seize Kostiantynivka, noting that small groups of Russian infantry occasionally penetrate Ukrainian-controlled territory. He also mentioned ongoing operations within the city to identify and neutralize Russian saboteurs. Despite 11 unsuccessful Russian assault operations in the Kostiantynivka direction in July, Ukraine's General Staff maintains that the situation, while complex, is under control.

The Ukrainian military command characterized Putin's statement as another instance of disinformation, suggesting it's an attempt by Russian leadership to falsely claim victories and justify the failures of their operational and strategic plans, as well as disproportionate Russian troop losses. The 'Vostok' force grouping corroborated this, stating that Kostiantynivka is controlled by Ukrainian units, with ongoing clashes in city districts. They reported that Russian attempts to infiltrate the city are failing, with invaders being eliminated and their logistics routes and troop concentrations being targeted.

Putin's statement is another example of lies – it is an attempt by the Russian leadership to openly 'invent' at least some victories and justify the failure of their operational and strategic plans and the disproportionately high losses of Russian soldiers.
