Ukraine, Europe and US to hold meeting in the near future, Zelenskyy says

Ukraine, the United States and Europe have agreed to meet again in the near future, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said after negotiations in Kyiv.

The Ukrainian president said national security advisers to the leaders of France, the United Kingdom and Germany joined the Ukraine-US discussions during the third round. He left open where the next meeting would take place.

“We have agreed that Ukraine, Europe and America will meet in the near future. I do not know where the meeting will be, in Europe, in the United States of America, or perhaps again. As I understood it, Steve liked our railways, so perhaps again in Ukraine. We are open in any case,” Zelenskyy said.

US presidential special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrived in Kyiv by train on Sept. 6. They met Zelenskyy at Sofiiska Square and visited St Sophia Cathedral before proceeding to negotiations. Zelenskyy said three rounds of talks took place that day and were all “very substantive.”

The discussions covered possible terms for ending the war and short-term support for Ukraine. Kushner said after the first round that Donald Trump was firmly determined to end the war. The previous day, the envoys had held talks in Moscow, where an aide to Vladimir Putin said the Russian leader was confident his war aims would be achieved. The White House called the discussions “substantive” and said it would announce next steps in the coming weeks.
