Ukraine hits Russian refineries as Moscow strikes train station, ship

Ukraine launched overnight drone attacks targeting two Russian oil refineries located hundreds of kilometers from the front lines, in what President Volodymyr Zelensky described as a move to strengthen diplomatic prospects. The strikes hit facilities in the Bashkortostan and Yaroslavl regions, approximately 1,300 and 700 kilometers from the conflict zone, respectively. Zelensky urged Russia to "choose peace," sharing a video of smoke rising from an oil facility.

These Ukrainian strikes occurred as Russia continued its own long-range assaults. Russian forces attacked a train station in the Kharkiv region, killing two people, and struck a commercial vessel carrying Ukrainian wheat in the Black Sea, resulting in one fatality. The previous day, Russian missile attacks on Kyiv killed at least 17 people and destroyed warehouses, an action widely seen as retaliation for Ukraine's targeting of Russian e-commerce giant Wildberries.
