Ukraine offers Russia multiple peace talk formats, including freezing war along front lines

Ukraine has put forward a range of proposals to Russia, aiming to de-escalate the conflict and initiate complex negotiations. Presidential advisor Mykhailo Podoliak outlined these options, suggesting formats like a general ceasefire, an air-space ceasefire, or an energy ceasefire. He also reiterated President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's willingness to meet directly with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss difficult issues, a position fully endorsed by the United States.

However, Podoliak expressed skepticism about Putin's readiness for genuine negotiations. He described the Russian leader as being "stuck" on a single idea, with his worldview shaped entirely around it. Podoliak suggested that significant internal pressure within Russia, including crises related to strikes on oil refineries and fuel or food shortages, is necessary to compel Moscow to engage in meaningful talks. He believes that until fear grips Russia due to such domestic issues, no substantive response to peace proposals can be expected.
