Ukraine orders Kramatorsk evacuations as Russia intensifies attacks; Germany warns of 'hybrid threat'

Ukrainian authorities have ordered families with children to evacuate Kramatorsk, a city in the eastern Donetsk region, as Russian attacks intensify. The regional military administration announced the difficult but necessary decision, citing the deteriorating security situation and the unacceptable risk to children.

"The security situation is deteriorating, so it is unacceptable to leave children under the constant threat of Russian attacks," stated the governor of the Donetsk region, Vadym Filachkin. Approximately 525 children and their guardians are expected to be evacuated.

Meanwhile, Germany's Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt warned of a "new dimension of threat" following the discovery of a drone equipped with an explosive device at Leipzig-Halle Airport. This incident, which occurred at a critical logistics hub for NATO and the flow of military and civilian supplies to Ukraine, has raised concerns about potential "hybrid attack scenarios."

Dobrindt described the threat as professional and potentially involving "foreign powers," emphasizing that it aims to create a sense of insecurity. The investigation into the drone's origins and motives is ongoing.

In diplomatic developments, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed his ambassador to the United States, Olga Stefanichyna. This decision, anticipated following a July government reshuffle, comes as Ukraine continues to press its allies for more advanced military equipment, including Patriot missile systems.
