Ukraine: Russia struck Turkish cargo ship near Odesa, killing six

Ukraine's navy reported that Russia fired three cruise missiles at the Turkish-owned Golden Leo cargo ship near Odesa, killing at least six crew members. The vessel, flying the Guinea-Bissau flag, was reportedly struck as it departed a combat zone with a grain cargo, igniting a fire.

Mykola Kalašnyk, a Ukrainian minister, stated that four crew members remain missing, with search efforts ongoing. By Sunday evening, eight crew members had been rescued and taken to a hospital in Odesa. The crew included Syrian and Indian nationals, and one Ukrainian crew member died, according to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andri Sybiha.

Ukraine's navy condemned the attack on Facebook, calling it "another deliberate strike by Russia against an unarmed civilian vessel flying a foreign flag, which posed no military threat." This incident follows a report from Saturday where Ukraine's navy stated Russia attacked the Venturo cargo ship, resulting in one death and the evacuation of 17 Filipino crew members.
