As reported by The New York Times and detailed by Večernji List, this unusual naming strategy, combining "Donbas" with "Donald," appears aimed at leveraging the influence of former U.S. President Donald Trump and encouraging a more assertive American position regarding Russian territorial ambitions.

This tactic is not unprecedented; similar symbolic gestures, such as Poland's "Fort Trump" proposal, have been observed as nations seek to garner U.S. political favor. The "Donnyland" designation, while perhaps carrying a whimsical echo of Disneyland, refers to a war-torn area approximately 80 by 65 kilometers, situated precariously close to the front lines. It is home to an estimated 190,000 people, though some sources suggest the actual number is significantly lower, and its economic activity is virtually nonexistent, with only one functioning mine remaining.
