Ukraine's Zelensky Visits Troops at Frontline

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made a frontline visit on Wednesday, reaching troops in the southeastern sector where Kyiv has reported recent advances against Russian forces.

During his visit, Zelensky was accompanied by Mykhailo Drapatyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The president shared news of his trip via social media, highlighting the ongoing efforts on the ground.

Earlier the same day, Zelensky bestowed the Order of Freedom, one of Ukraine's highest state honors, upon Elon Musk. The award recognized Musk's "outstanding personal merits" in safeguarding human life and freedom, and for strengthening the bond between Ukraine and the United States. Musk, the founder of SpaceX, has been a significant, albeit sometimes controversial, figure in Ukraine's wartime efforts.

His decision to provide access to SpaceX's Starlink satellite internet network has been critical, serving as a vital communications lifeline for Ukrainian forces and civilians since Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022. Starlink's connectivity is deeply integrated into Ukraine's military operations, enabling commanders and soldiers to communicate and coordinate effectively. Zelensky has expressed a desire for Musk to reconsider Starlink's current policy of not operating over Russian territory, which would allow Ukrainian forces to extend their drone attacks on Russian military and economic infrastructure.

While Musk has not yet commented on the award, his company's technology has been instrumental in Ukraine's drone campaigns, enhancing operators' ability to maintain links and navigate drones over extended distances. Although Starlink is accessible within Ukraine, including Russian-occupied regions, its use within Russia itself remains restricted. This restriction impacts Ukraine's ability to conduct longer-range operations targeting Russian assets.
