Erdogan vows to thwart plots against unity, reaffirms commitment to PKK disarmament process

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has vowed to counter efforts aimed at disrupting the unity among Turks, Kurds, and Arabs, reinforcing his dedication to a peace process designed to disarm the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). This initiative, branded 'Terror-Free Türkiye' by Ankara and referred to as the 'Peace and Democratic Society Process' by the Kurdish side, hinges on the dissolution and disarmament of the PKK.

When this process achieves its goal, the merchants of blood, the opportunists who profit from terrorism and the ‘architects of genocide’ seeking to destabilize our country and region will lose.

Speaking at a ceremony commemorating the 955th anniversary of the Battle of Manzikert, Erdogan declared that the success of this process would neutralize adversaries who profit from conflict and seek to destabilize the region. He projected that the initiative would usher in an era defined by humanity, brotherhood, peace, and stability. In a veiled reference to recent events involving Israel, Erdogan asserted that external pressures would not deter Türkiye from its path toward fostering solidarity among its diverse populations.

Erdogan's administration, through the presidency’s Center for Countering Disinformation, has also highlighted what it describes as a deliberate, foreign-backed psychological campaign targeting Türkiye's social cohesion. The center urged citizens to exercise vigilance against misinformation and rely on official communications, emphasizing the nation's resilience and the state's firm stance against such campaigns.

The renewed push for the domestic peace process coincides with the establishment of four committees tasked with overseeing the PKK's disarmament. The Monitoring, Evaluation and Coordination Council, in its first meeting, described the process as historic and critical for eradicating terrorism and fostering brotherhood. Recent legislation, Law No. 7595 on 'Strengthening National Solidarity and Social Integration,' enacted in August, is presented as a cornerstone of the 'Century of Türkiye' vision, aiming to bolster national unity and social integration.
