Ukraine to stop publishing detailed Russian missile attack statistics

Ukraine's military aviation has announced it will cease publishing detailed statistics on Russian missile attacks. The measure specifically targets information regarding the number of missiles Russia launches and how many are intercepted by Ukrainian air defenses.

This shift in reporting comes as Russia launched over 450 missiles toward Ukraine in July alone, with approximately 200 being ballistic missiles. The head of communications for Ukraine's military aviation, Iurii Ihnat, stated that morning reports from the command will be altered. While real-time alarms will continue, authorities will no longer provide granular data on intercepted, neutralized, or unexploded missiles.

The decision is closely linked to Ukraine's growing challenges in intercepting Russian ballistic missiles. The country faces a deficit of interceptor missiles for its Patriot air defense systems. Ballistic missiles, due to their high speed and trajectory, are significantly harder to intercept than cruise missiles or drones. Russia has increasingly employed these weapons in its attacks.

Recent attacks have repeatedly targeted Kyiv, resulting in civilian casualties and damage to residential buildings. In one instance on August 5, Ukrainian forces failed to intercept any of the 28 ballistic missiles launched by Russia. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine received only about a third of the Patriot interceptor missiles this year compared to the same period in 2025. By limiting public information on air defense effectiveness, Ukrainian authorities aim to reduce the intelligence available to Russia about the capabilities and vulnerabilities of their air defense systems.
