Ukraine Urges Allies to Resist Russian Blackmail Amid Escalation Fears

Ukraine is urging its international partners to resist Russian blackmail and threats of further strikes, emphasizing that succumbing would validate Moscow's tactics. Deputy Foreign Minister Anton Sybiha stated that the West should not give in to Russian intimidation, whether it involves nuclear threats or military exercises.

At this moment, we are talking with our partners that there is no reason to give in to this Russian blackmail [threats to continue terrorizing the population of Ukraine]. We have already gone through all of this and we know: as soon as he [Putin] intensifies this rhetoric, he tries to influence the so-called Western mentality – whether it is nuclear threats or joint exercises on the territory of Belarus.

Sybiha described Russia's actions as a "mockery of all peace efforts" and asserted that the Russian leadership shows no interest in a peace process. Instead, he argued, Russia is actively escalating the conflict. This necessitates a proportional response from the global community, which should include providing additional aid and weaponry to Ukraine.

The deputy minister stressed that Russian President Vladimir Putin must understand the consequences of refusing serious negotiations. "He will never achieve his military goals in Ukraine," Sybiha declared, adding that Putin needs to "save his country," but will fail.

Ukraine and its partners have discussed a resolute response, involving concrete actions rather than just words. The aim is to demonstrate that Europe will not be intimidated and knows how to react proportionally and decisively to such threats. Sybiha expressed confidence that this firm stance will lead to additional packages of solidarity and concrete support for Ukraine.
