Ukraine: Zelenskyy aims to force Putin to peace by autumn

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is intensifying efforts to compel Russian President Vladimir Putin to agree to an end to the war by autumn. He believes a combination of Ukrainian long-range drone strikes, international sanctions, and diplomatic pressure will leave Russia with "no alternative to peace."

"We will work hard to make this happen by the fall," Zelenskyy stated to Ukrainian ambassadors in Kyiv. Despite this push for a swift resolution, he acknowledged the likelihood of another war winter and instructed diplomats to procure necessary technical support and weapons from foreign partners. "Every ambassador must procure weapons for Ukraine," he emphasized, highlighting the joint development of the Freyja missile defense system with European partners as a key international project.

Zelenskyy accused Putin of deliberately prolonging the conflict and preparing for further mobilization. He noted that after nearly four and a half years of full-scale invasion, the Kremlin shows no sign of abandoning its war aims. Many observers anticipate that a new wave of mobilization could follow Russia's parliamentary elections in mid-September.

This diplomatic and military push follows a 40-day period of intelligence operations announced by Zelenskyy in late June, aimed at moving Russia toward peace. These operations included significant attacks on logistics centers of the Russian online retailer Wildberries. The 40-day period concluded on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Ukrainian attacks on Russia and the annexed Crimean peninsula have resulted in at least ten deaths, according to authorities. Four people were killed in a popular tourist area on the Black Sea, and four more on Crimea. Russian attacks on central Ukraine also claimed three lives.
