Ukrainian Drone Attack Kills at Least 12 in Central Russia

A Ukrainian drone attack on the city of Nizhnekamsk in Russia's Tatarstan region resulted in at least a dozen fatalities and 39 injuries, a local press service reported. The city is situated in a region rich with energy resources and hosts major oil refineries, which have become frequent targets for Kyiv as both nations escalate long-range attacks on infrastructure.

The United Nations has noted that such strikes have led to an increase in civilian casualties in both Russia and Ukraine. According to Radmir Belyayev, the mayor of Nizhnekamsk, unspecified industrial and civilian targets were hit in the Monday strike. These attacks on refineries have contributed to fuel shortages and reduced Russia's oil-refining capacity.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy asserted that the air campaign is intended to compel Russian President Vladimir Putin to enter negotiations to end the ongoing full-scale invasion. "We do deliver entirely justified responses, and every Russian strike will be met with our response. Russia's war will be felt more and more at their own home, in Russia," Zelenskyy stated in a social media post.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian air force reported that Russia launched 126 drones overnight, while the Russian Defense Ministry claimed to have shot down 456 Ukrainian drones. The ministry did not specify how many drones reached their targets or were intercepted in the Tatarstan region. In a separate incident near the front lines in Ukraine, a Russian artillery strike in the village of Bugaivka in the Kharkiv region killed five people, according to Ukrainian officials.
