UMJ Sports Education Program Holds Workshop on Football Sport Science

The Sports Education Program at Muhammadiyah University of Jakarta is bringing sport science into the search for Indonesia’s next football talents. Its workshop, titled “From Talent to Elite,” focused on identifying, developing and optimizing players through a sustainable, science-based approach.

Held at the Faculty of Education auditorium on September 3, 2026, the event examined how scientific methods can support athletes from the earliest scouting stage through their continued development. Dr Sri Imawati, the faculty’s deputy dean, said sport science had become an important part of that process.

“The role of sport science in identifying, developing and optimizing football talent is very important,” Sri said. She described the workshop as a positive step toward improving understanding of science-based sports development, particularly in football.

Prof Robbie Wilson, the workshop’s speaker, discussed how sport science can help identify potential and optimize athletes’ abilities. He began with talent scouting, describing it as a crucial first stage in finding players whose potential can be recognized and developed in a more directed way.

“Talent scouting is an important part of finding talented players with potential,” Wilson said. “Through this process, we can see and select players who have the ability to continue developing.” UMJ said the workshop was intended to strengthen understanding and coaching practices so football talent can be developed more effectively and sustainably.
