UMNO Kelantan has not discussed cooperation with PAS to face PRU-16

UMNO Kelantan has not yet engaged in any discussions with PAS regarding a potential Malay political consolidation ahead of the 16th General Election (PRU-16). The state chapter currently remains committed to supporting the Unity Government, established by royal decree.

Datuk Seri Ahmad Jazlan Yaakob, the Chairman of UMNO Kelantan, stated that the party's focus is on the current political landscape, including the upcoming State General Elections which will follow PRU-16. He reiterated the Barisan Nasional's (BN) continued support for the existing Unity Government. "For now, BN still supports the Unity Government," he told Utusan Malaysia.

Jazlan clarified that discussions about potential cooperation for PRU-16 have not commenced within the party. He was responding to suggestions that PAS and UMNO in Kelantan should begin efforts towards unity. According to Jazlan, UMNO Kelantan will not preempt the decisions of the party's central leadership on any proposed collaboration with PAS in the state.

"We in UMNO-Barisan Nasional (BN) Kelantan abide by and comply with all decisions made. We will not preempt the central leadership," he affirmed. This stance emphasizes that any move towards political unity between UMNO and PAS at the state level must undergo a formal process and receive approval from the national party leadership.
