Unemployment holds steady in July at 6.1% in EU and 6.4% in eurozone

The European Union’s unemployment rate stayed at 6.1% in July for the sixth month in a row, according to figures published by Eurostat. The eurozone rate also held steady, at 6.4%.

Both figures stood one-tenth of a percentage point above their levels a year earlier. Eurostat revised June’s rates upward, from 6.0% to 6.1% for the EU and from 6.3% to 6.4% for the eurozone.

The agency estimated that 13.52 million people were unemployed across the EU, about 41,000 fewer than in June but 296,000 more than in July 2025. The eurozone counted about 11.26 million unemployed people, unchanged from the previous month and up by 175,000 over the year.

Finland recorded the highest unemployment rate at 10.5%, followed by Spain at 10%. Sweden stood at 8.7%, France at 8.3% and Greece at 7.9%. The lowest rates were reported in the Czech Republic, at 3.3%, Poland at 3.4%, and Malta and Slovenia at 3.5% each.

Youth unemployment fell by five-tenths of a point in the EU, to 15.1%, and by one-tenth in the eurozone, to 14.9%. Estonia had the highest youth rate among countries with available July data, at 26.1%, followed by Sweden at 24.4%, Finland at 23.4% and Spain at 22.9%.
