UNICEF installs 18 solar-powered water pumping systems in Sebha, Traghin, Tajrehi and Kufra

In observance of World Water Week, UNICEF Libya has announced the installation of 18 solar-powered water pumping systems in the regions of Sebha, Traghin, Tajrehi, and Kufra. This initiative targets areas in southwest and southeast Libya, aiming to significantly enhance water accessibility.

The newly installed systems are designed to provide improved water access for a substantial population, benefiting over 55,000 individuals. Among those directly impacted are more than 16,000 children, who will gain more reliable access to this essential resource.

Beyond immediate access, UNICEF highlights that these solar-powered systems contribute to more sustainable and climate-resilient water services. This aligns with global efforts to address water scarcity and promote environmentally sound infrastructure, particularly in regions vulnerable to climate change impacts.

The project underscores UNICEF's commitment to supporting vulnerable communities in Libya by providing critical infrastructure that improves daily life and promotes long-term well-being. The focus on solar power also emphasizes a move towards renewable energy solutions for essential services.
