Unified digital platform launched in Paraguay to report animal abuse

Paraguay has introduced a new digital platform designed to combat animal cruelty by providing a centralized system for citizens to report abuse. The Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies (MITIC) announced the integration of a dedicated section within the Government's Reporting Portal for animal abuse cases.

Through the official portal and using electronic identity, citizens will be able to report cases of animal abuse quickly and attach photos or videos as proof.

This initiative, developed at the direct request of the National Directorate of Animal Defense, Health, and Welfare, aims to offer a more agile, organized, and direct mechanism for citizens to channel their complaints. Previously, reports of cruelty or abandonment were scattered across social media or phone calls, often failing to progress due to a lack of formal registration. This new system serves as the sole official and legal channel for receiving and processing such reports nationwide.

The tool aims to end the disorder in reports and ensure that each case is investigated by the authorities.

To ensure accountability and prevent the creation of fake profiles, the platform requires users to log in using their electronic identity, the same secure system used for official documents like birth certificates or police records. A key feature of the platform is its ability to allow users to attach evidence, such as photographs and videos taken with their mobile phones, which serve as crucial proof for investigators. Once a report is successfully submitted, the system automatically generates a unique identification number, enabling the reporter to track the case's progress in real-time.

The Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies (MITIC) reported that a space designed exclusively to report cases of animal abuse has been incorporated into the Government's Reporting Portal.
